Kids dancing at Hudson Beach Party What do you do when school is out in your community? In Hudson, youth services staff Carol Hudson and Mary Davis, along with 5 adult and 8 teen volunteers, offered a fun day last month. This was the first time for them, and they were happy with the success of the event!
Younger game-players
73 kids in grades K-5 were there from 10 am to 4 pm. As you can imagine, there were lots of details to manage, and Carol worked hard to choreograph the transitions to keep things from descending into chaos. A variety of activities (games, dancing, stories, a movie, and a visit from Amelia Bedelia) kept things hopping.
It’s hard to go wrong with a visit from Amelia Bedelia! Aside from some planning and technical problems with the movie, the staff, volunteers and kids were all excited about how well this program went. Next time–and there will be a next time–they will require pre-registration to ease some of the anxiety of the unknown.
