Delivery study is coming!

Thank you all for participating and helping IFLS collect this vital information, which is used for a variety of reasons; one of which is when courier companies develop bids for our business they need to see the volume of the library locations. 🙂 How very applicable this year 😅 Instructions are on the Delivery Page, questions go to the HelpDesk.

Group supply orders

  • The Demco order
    • When your boxes arrive, PLEASE CHECK THE CONTENTS AND THE PACKING SLIP.
    • There were some extras at the end of processing the 4,000 items in this order. If you’re missing something please email Sarah.
    • Paper Hinge Tape (1” and 1-1/2”) and Scotch 811 Removable Tape (3/4”) are on backorder, and will be sent as soon as received.
    • Contact Sarah if you need additional help: szymanski@ifls.lib.wi.us
  • The Zebra printer ribbon order should reach you this week or early next week. Brad was able to order genuine Zebra brand ribbons from CDW for us this year, so we should not have the spotty quality issues that we experienced in the past few years.
  • The spine label rolls will take another few weeks.

New and updated resources

  • New Director Training Camp resources updated. Good info, even if you’re not new.
  • OverDrive has developed a new training resource that focuses on Libby front-line library staff.  The course is self-paced and is a good refresher or even an introduction to those new to supporting their patrons using Libby.
  • Human Resources for Wisconsin Library Leaders,a brand new resource designed specifically for Wisconsin public library leaders like you—a dedicated professional development website with curated events and content on Human Resource management! When it’s fully developed, this site will feature expert insights, webinars, and resources to help you navigate the complexities of HR in the library setting. Stay tuned for updates. We’re kicking this off with two webinars, details in the IFLS calendar, linked below.
  • A reminder that IFLS staff regularly updates policy examples and they’re available in the article index.

Advocacy toolkit updates

A new social media post for this Monday is on the toolkit, and a mini zine about funding has also been added on the crowd-sourced ideas from libraries on the resource page.

Get ready for the passport!

This year’s program will feature a deck of cards, and we’ll use stickers instead of stamps. Reb is working furiously on the details, watch for something next week.

News in the world of libraries

Retiring CCBC librarian talks about Intellectual Freedom

A WPR interview with Megan Schliesman, Cooperative Children’s Book Center Librarian and Assistant Director, is really worth a listen!

The Minnesota Library Association is tracking IMLS issues

“Changes at the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) are happening at times rapidly and with limited communication. This timeline is an attempt to account for major interventions the agency is enduring.” Opens as a word document.

South Dakota State Library closes to the public, Library System discontinues courier service

Article in the Sioux Falls Argus Leader.

From Facebook post: “Due to the uncertainty in federal library grants after President’s Executive Order [March 14, 2025] and the subsequent DOGE shutdown of the Institute of Library and Museum Services (IMLS), the South Dakota State Library has announced that the courier system in South Dakota will not continue past the contract renewal date of APRIL 30.”

It’s unclear how these cuts will impact our Interlibrary Loan at this time.
