Keeping Up With Kids

Thanks to Shelly from L.E. Phillips for this toe-tapping contribution:

I went to a music session at PLA called Move-n-Groove: Making Music Meaningful. The presenters gave a list of some of their favorite songs to use in storytime. They had a ton of fun presenting the session and they made all of the adults get up and get movin’. You can see all of the handouts if you go to the PLA website, click on PLA conference, go to conference handouts. When you get to conference handouts, you can search by session name. Put in Groove-n-Move, and you can see everything. Lots of good information from a former Kindermusik teacher. Enjoy!

Here are some of the best songs highlighted:

The Goldfish from Victor Vito by Laurie Berkner
Bean Bag Boogie, Animal Action and Freeze all from Kids in Motion by Greg and Steve
Silly Dance Contest and Alabama Mississippi (good with shakers) from Jim Gill Sings the Sneezing Song and Other Contagious Tunes
Five Frogs from Anna Moo Crackers by Anna Moo
Jump Up Turn Around and Face the Facts from Jim Gill Sings Moving Rhymes for Modern Times
Shake my Sillies Out from Raffi in Concert with the Rise and Shine Band by Raffi
Rock and Roll Freeze from So Big by Hap Palmer
I Know a Chicken from Whaddaya Think of That? by Laurie Berkner (great with shaker eggs)
Stick to the Glue from Jim Gill Makes it Noisy in Boise, Idaho
Coconut Soap from Frank Leto’s Time for Music by Frank Leto

The presenters said that Frank Leto’s music is only available online. The song listed here they particularly liked for body parts. I did order 3 of his cd’s, so they will hopefully be available soon.
