CATCODE Values
“o” SHORT ORDERBIB
If very little information is available for the item, we may add a short order bib record in Sierra because we want a bib record to exist in Sierra for patrons to place holds and for libraries to add their order records to the bib. This type of bib record will most likely have a 595 note “Expected release date” or “Expected publication date”. We will most likely have placed a hold on this item to see the items at the IFLS office to fully catalog it after it has been released. We will keep an eye on these bib records to upgrade them to full records as soon as possible.
“u” CABS UPGRADE
If we’ve made the CAT code a “u” we are not finished with this bib record. We use this CATCODE because we have some information, but we have entered this bib at an early stage in the life of the record. We do this because we want a bib record to exist in Sierra for patrons to place holds and for libraries to add their order records to the bib. This type of bib may have been entered in the pre-publication stage. When that is the case, will most likely have a 595 note “Expected release date” or “Expected publication date”. It’s likely we have placed a hold, in order to see the items at the IFLS office to fully catalog it after it has been released. We will keep an eye on these bib records to upgrade them to full records as soon as possible.
“x” OCLC
We have either seen the item or have cataloged it from a distance with confidence. We have upgraded our OCLC holdings on the Sierra bib record and in OCLC. If you see something that concerns you about the current bib record, please send an email or HelpDesk ticket so we can investigate and fic the record.
